5. 愁、悲、苦、憂、惱 sokaparidevadukkhadomanassupāyāsa
Sokaparidevadukkhadomanassupāyāsadhammānaṃ, bhikkhave, sattānaṃ evaṃ icchā uppajjati ‘aho vata mayaṃ na sokaparidevadukkhadomanassupāyāsadhammā assāma, na ca vata no sokaparidevadukkhadomanassupāyāsadhammā āgaccheyyu’nti. Na kho panetaṃ icchāya pattabbaṃ, idampi yampicchaṃ na labhati tampi dukkhaṃ.
比丘們!眾生受愁、悲、苦、憂、惱之法則支配,生起這樣欲求:『哎呀!我們不願受愁、悲、苦、憂、惱之法則支配,但願不再愁、悲、苦、憂、惱!』但不是只靠欲求就可得到,這就是『求不得苦』。
sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, & despair, the wish arises, 'O, may we not be subject to sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, & despair, and may sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, & despair not come to us.' But this is not to be achieved by wishing. This is the stress of not getting what one wants.
